Submission Oh My! (Part 2)

Ok, so we learnt form the previous post that submission is a choice to respect the authority that God placed in our lives. Submission does not make us insignificant as a person. We still have to think and make suggestions. It does not mean we are to become robots or dummy but we can still be as active as ever.

Infact, submission simply means you trust your husband to make the right decisions and to handle things rightly. It means I trust his sense of judgement, It also means that I trust God to guide him right since God is the one who instituted his authority.

But What If I dont like what the authority asks me to do?

Remember, first and foremost that Christ is our example and he inturn is the head of the husband. What happened at Gethsemane is an extreme example but we can learn from it. The Father had asked Jesus to go to the cross, Jesus wasn't particularly excited about and he did not pretend about it. The bible said he opened his mouth to voice his feeling but still maintained his submission to the decision of the Father. He fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39 (NIV).

So going by our example, it is perfectly fine to (in a respectful way) ask for something different. Jesus was able to endure the most painful act of submission because he was looking beyond the sacrifice to the joy. "....who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame...." Hebrew 12:2 (NIV)

Look beyond what is going on now, look for the joy in what you are doing. The Joy of obedience to God, having your husbands trust, the joy of a quarrel-free marriage, peaceful home, and and of course a confident husband. Do you even know that submission boost your husband's self esteem and confidence?.... More on that later....
